Loving Sonora Resort! B.C’s best kept secret!
I am a little slow getting this @SonoraResort post done. I am actually finally writing it while on a repositioning cruise to L.A. and posting after just getting home.
I was @SonoraResort the week of September 6th thru 11th. I was attending the annual @LondonDrugs Charity Retreat. I thought that I would get this out earlier, but I had to go through the 900 pics and it did take some time to get those fixed up.
I was extremely fortunate to have been able to go up to the resort a couple of days early (supposed to go up Wednesday, but was asked to go up on Monday – It is a tough life that I lead). What an awesome time I had at a truly awesome resort.
I often get asked by friends and family; “Describe what Sonora Resort is like and what do we, or what can we do there”. I always answer the same way; I will have to let my pics describe the resort and activities, as I am not too sure that I could adequately give a description of the resort in words. Truly an example of the old adage; a picture is worth a thousand words. Sonora Resort is a pretty unbelievable place! That’s why this will be a picture heavy posting!
Sonora Resort is a true 5 star resort with 5 star amenities and 5 star service levels! I often tell people; it is like having 4 Season Hotel amenities and service levels, in a Whistler like feel; but on an island that is situated in one of the most picturesque areas of British Columbia. It is a place that has all the electronic toys of the home and office (and then some – the media room and the conference centre are crazy!). It has a spa and fitness centre as good as any of the great hotels in Canada. It has countless areas to relax and lose yourself in.
Funny thing – that still does not give it its dues. It is way better than that!!
Again – pics will assist!
So; outside of the above description, the eating ridiculously good food and enjoying a setting and environment that is second to none; why would you want to go to Sonora Resort?
The million other things that you can do at the resort, or with the resort, is what “kicks it up a notch more”!
When I was up there; I went fishing for salmon with the Boss and Trevor, and the Boss and Mike. I caught no fish that I could keep, but all of my fishing partners did. I am still being reminded of that fact on a daily basis. The Boss just can’t let that one go, and I am continually reminded of how “pathetic” a fisherman I am –wearing a sad face now.
We also did things that I had never done before; we fished for ling cod. Again, I caught none, but my fishing partners, Mr. Louie and Mike did very well over a couple of days of fishing.
We put down prawn traps (got about 300 prawns) and put down crab traps (not great – but still cool and we got 3 nice crabs).
We fished for rock cod (I did well there – got 2 nice sized ones over 2 days of fishing!), went to a cooking class with Chef Terry (always great doing that!) and I went on a Grizzly Tour with Sonora Guide Aaron and Homolco Indian Nations guides, Wilson and Matt. The grizzly bears trip was a BLAST!! Take a look at the pics of that one! Thanks to Wilson and Matt for letting me get as close as I could without becoming a snack!
Others went on eco tours, hung out at the spa and spa pools, went on mountain walks and mountain bike rides, fly fished in the well stocked ponds on sight, fly fished by heli, kayaked on the ocean, while others just found time to hang out in the lodge or in the solarium. So many places to go and so many things to do. If you are bored at this place – OMG is all I can say!!
This next pic will sum it up the entire week for me. This is the picture of the Boss (Mr. Louie) and Mike (Guide extraordinaire). I asked the men to tell me what they thought of the fishing and what they thought about fishing with me. All that I can say; “I liked fishing with you also Mikey, I don’t know about the other guy with us!!”
Thanks for the fish Mr. Louie! I will give you this; you are a “pretty good” fisherman and a very gracious host, but next year, I catch the fish!!
Thanks to Sean, Rebecca, Donna, Terry, Daniel and the entire staff at the Resort. The staff are amazing and service levels crazy!!
Can’t wait until next years event – I love Sonora Resort!!
Ciao for now @kootenayborn
