A New Day – A Poem
Awake to the darkness of another dawn,
The eve passed just won’t give us new light.
The heaviness and forlorn of yesterday not gone,
The constant struggle in search of what’s right.
Recent history provides us little clarity,
Fighting finite time for the answers.
The defeated may wallow in disparity,
Their thoughts mimic frantic dancers.
The burning desires to get all that we can,
Toxic worries about what we could have.
Wondering how long this life will span,
Burdened by what others think we should have.
A dim light glowing at the tunnels end,
Needling us to devote less energy on the how.
Start managing the time that was given us to spend,
Meditation required to reflect and relish on the now.
The restless hunting for the invisible pot of gold,
That something not coming around any corner soon.
Selfish purposes have a way of getting old,
Now looking for guidance, staring toward the moon.
Plan to focus on today and the living,
Feeding and nourishing the soul and mind.
Rewarded by the emotions of thoughtful and selfless giving,
The true meaning and answers I will find.
Waking to the darkness of yet another morn,
The eve passed still not giving us much light.
However, the old heaviness and forlorn won’t be reborn,
Through the blackness, the new day is looking bright.
