Five Hole For Food (#FHFF)- Global TV’s Hero of the Week!! Awesome!!
Sitting on my Windsor to Calgary portion of my WestJet flight home after a quick business trip for London Drugs, and I am listening to some tunes, and blogging of cousre; and guess what I see on satellite TV?!
None other than Richard Loat, of Five Hole For Food (#FHFF),talking about his cross country tour with his buddies. A tour that saw Richard and friends play street hockey in 13 cities over 27 days, from June 18th and July 9th; all designed to raise food donations for the food banks across the country at a time of year when most of us dont think about the needs of food banks. From Coast to Coast – starting in St. Johns, Newfoundland and ending in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Richard and FHFF were being honored with Global TV’s “Hero of the Week” award and I am giggling to myself as I watch this clip of Richard and Victor Lo playing hockey on a ferry boat deck in the Maritimes!! Beautiful!!
Why write about that you ask? Who cares, and why do I care?
It’s because I found it funny that I am on the airline sponsor of FHFF, WestJet, and I am on the flight for London Drugs, another sponsor of FHFF, and I am feeling really good for Richard and his Buddies. I am getting a warm and fuzzy feeling for playing a small role in making Richards dream come true. (Yes I do have feelings and even I can get the warm a fuzzies and it had nothing to do with wine or the steak dinner I am still trying to digest from the night before or the crappy nights sleep!)
Richard raised over 40,000 pounds of food for food banks across Canada and we, at London Drugs with some muchly appreciated assistance from a group of our Vendors, helped in raising over $10,000 worth of those food donations (about 3000 pounds or so of food)!! We had staff members in Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonron, Victoria and Vancouver come out a play some hockey with the boys. The emails and pictures were awesome. All had a great time, for a great cause, with a group of really good young people that want to help.
Trying to make a difference for those in need, but doing it in a really kool and fun way!! Really proud of you guys and just wanted to get that in print (electronic print that is :-))
I can’t wait for next years event! I know we can raise more and I know that our stores will be even more pumped to play and support this. You never know, maybe instead of just my son playing in Vancouver, maybe I will go out with him and see what I can still do. Going to have to get ready for this event though, Richard almost killed me playing in the London Drugs parking lot!! Gotta get in better shape!! Have a whole year to do it.
Until next year, Ciao for now @kootenayborn
